Tim McLean

Background

Tim serves as a Leadership Consultant and Counselor for Ikan. He is president of C+F Institute, co-founder of the Japan Transpersonal Association, and director of the Enneagram Institute Japan. For nearly two decades Tim has been leading retreats, seminars, and trainings on psychology, personal growth, communication, and leadership for businesses, educational and medical institutions in the United States, Asia, and Japan. Clients include the Young President’s Organization (YPO), the Entrepreneur’s Organization (EO), and their members’ companies in China and Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Macau, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam, as well as Fuji Xerox Business Education Institute, DaimlerChrysler-Mitsubishi Fuso, Toto, Sanrio Corporation, NHK Television Network, Image Plan Management Consultants, Machida Hospital, and many others. Tim has also worked on many projects for intercultural cooperation between Japan and other countries including work with the Enneagram Institute of New York to introduce the Enneagram of Personality Types to Japan and with Dr. Andrew Weil facilitating the development of Integrative Medicine in Japan. Tim is co-author in Japanese of Psychotherapy and Meditation, The Ways of Healing, Transpersonal Therapies, and is co-translator of The Wisdom of the Enneagram by Don Riso and Russ Hudson. He has appeared many times on Japanese television and radio programs and has worked as a consultant for a variety of television programs including the award winning NHK special, The Brain and the Mind. He is also the first non-Japanese to be elected and serve on the local town counsel and is a consultant on Eco-tourism for the Izu National Park area and the Ito City Government. Tim is an authority on traditional Japanese culture and spirituality. He leads retreats on Zen practice and walking pilgrimages each year on the 1,400 kilometer Path of the 88 Sacred Temples of Shikoku Island.

Education

Tim has a Master’s Degree in Education from Temple University, a BA in East Asian Studies from the University of California at Santa Cruz. He has extensive professional training in Transpersonal Psychology, Process Oriented Psychology, and he is a master teacher of the Enneagram of Personality Types. Tim is certified forum trainer with the Young Presidents Organization.

Personal Development

Tim enjoys nature walks, snorkeling and sea kayak with his wife, and participating in his own leadership circle. Tim has a Zen Buddhist ordination and practices a personal ITP that incorporates meditation, inquiry, wilderness, and pilgrimage.

Focus

Assisting individuals, groups, and institutions to evolve and grow by discovering essential values and learning effective communication and relationship skills to translate values into action to realize business and life goals. A major theme of Tim’s work has been team building through Leadership Circles that bridge traditional wisdom, modern psychology, and cutting edge business practices for what he calls, “The Pilgrimage of Life and Work”.
