  • Culture is the shared worldview of a group of people composed of shared values and beliefs, interests, and mental models and information. For most people, culture is a powerful unconscious influence that largely determines how they perceive, think, act, and react.

  • Cultural influences include several layers such as universal, national, industry, organizational, team and personality type.

  • When two or more cultures come into contact, conflict often results—especially when the people involved are not consciously aware of their culture and the powerful influence it exerts on them. Organizations, teams, and projects composed of two or more cultures have a much higher rate of success (and survival) when they use a cultural integration process. A cultural integration process helps people become aware of their culture, how to modify it, and how to use it to integrate different values and beliefs into shared standards, different interests into shared goals, and different mental models and information into shared knowledge.
